Children and Youth

Godly Play.

Presently we offer the "Godly Play" curriculum which is a very interactive, creative and engaging way of engaging people of any age in the stories and narratives of the Bible.  Storytellers tell a particular bible story, and participants are invited to respond with a time of reflection.  The bible stories told follow the liturgical calendar and the time together is intentionally designed to reflect the structure of worship.

Godly Play events are held downstairs in Thompson Hall during the Sunday 11:00 liturgy.

Very young children enter the Godly Play area upon arriving at church. Older children sit with parents to participate in the early parts of the worship service. They then join the younger children downstairs for teaching, prayers, songs, and snacks.

All children are welcome to participate in Communion to receive the Sacrament or to receive a blessing.

Our ministry with children and youth is as much about the parents as it is their children.  Church life provides a structure of support in times of crisis or transition. Historically St. John's children have helped other children in the region, and in other parts of Canada, Cuba, Guatemala, and Uganda. Short-term church mission trips have sometimes included younger members of St. John's.

Portage.

St. John's is connected to a residential addiction rehabilitation centre for youth based in Elora called Portage.  We offer Bible Studies for the residents and for those who are interested, we provide training to participate in our Sunday liturgies as acolytes.

Children and Youth Choir.

Emily Petrenko is the Director of our Children and Youth Choir.  They rehearse on Thursdays, 4:45 to 5:15 p.m. and sing at the 11 a.m. liturgy once every six weeks or so.  It is a wonderful opportunity to teach children about music and help them develop in self confidence.  For more information, please contact Emily through the Parish Office.
