Welcome to St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church
Rector’s Christmas Message:
St. John’s Gospel has no Christmas story. For that we rely on St. Luke and St. Matthew. However, in his great opening chapter, St. John does describe the miraculous birth of the believer, the child of God (1.12-13).

Welcome to our parish website. We look forward to welcoming you to our church if and as you are able to join us. We welcome constructive suggestions for the improvement of this site. St. John’s Church is part of the Diocese of Niagara in the Anglican Church of Canada. We belong to the Anglican Communion, a global community of 70 million Anglicans in 164 countries.
Clergy
Our Rector is The Reverend Patrick Patterson. He is assisted by our Rector Emeritus, the Rev’d Canon Robert Hulse, and Honourary Assistants, The Rev’d John Burke, Rev’d Jerry Salloum, Rev’d Canon Gerald Shantz, and our Rector’s Assistant and Youth Worker, Tanya Packer.
Worship
Worship is the centre of our life together. For in worship we are called out of ourselves and into participation in the life of God the Holy Spirit for allegiance to our Lord Jesus Christ, to the glory of God the Father. We welcome everyone to all of our services. All are welcome guests at our Lord’s table.
When you arrive for worship, you will receive a bulletin to guide you through the service. Hymn and prayer books are available at the back of the church. We generally dress casually for services. You are invited after services for fellowship and coffee in Thompson Hall in the basement of the church. See the worship link for details about our various services.
Christian Education
As a supplement to Sunday preaching and Sunday School (at 11 am), two or three times a year we offer mid-week series of studies, Bible study or theology, church history, moral issues and book studies. All are welcome to all studies. Details of particular studies are available elsewhere on our web page and in our bulletins and newsletters.
Communication
Together with this web page, we can be reached at our e-mail address, stjohns@sentex.net, or by telephone at 519.846.5911. A weekly bulletin that includes news and announcements as well as orders of service is available each Sunday (see link to Sunday bulletin). Three or four times a year we publish a newsletter, Common Supplications, which is sent to everyone on our mailing list (see link to Newsletter). If you wish to be added to our mailing list, you may fill out the welcome card hanging in the church pews, or e-mail, or phone us.
Youth Ministry
Follow the links to the Youth component of this website where you will find lots to interest and excite!
Outreach
Outreach includes an active Primate’s World Relief and Development group (PWRDF), and significant participation in the Portage institution. Parishioners lead Bible studies with the young people every Monday evening. At the 9 and 11 am services, Portage students are our servers and acolytes. Many parishioners offer their time, energy and financial support to various local and overseas initiatives.
