Passing on a HeartPandemic Donation - An Invitation

June 25 2020

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. John’s,

In the week of July 6 many of us will receive a financial assistance of $300 from the Government of Canada. All who are eligible for the monthly OAS payment will see this one-time grant in their bank account. In many cases, this is a much needed help for you to cover your extra expenses during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Some parishioners have expressed a wish to pass all or part of this gift on to others in greater need than themselves. While there’s no obligation or expectation, if you are able you might consider these various suggestions to redirect this one time gift.

PWRDF has set aside $200,000 for Covid-19 responses and offers several options:

  • Contribute to PWRDF’s $40,000 grant to HelpAge Canada which distributes its funds as grants to more than 30 agencies supporting seniors across Canada. Designate your gift to “PWRDF – HelpAge Canada”.
  • Burundi’s Village Health Works, a long-term partner of PWRDF, uses its $60,000  COVID-19 grant to engage a women’s coop to sew face masks, to erect tents for social distancing at the clinics and to procure gloves and  N95 respirators. Designate your gift to “PWRDF – VHW Burundi”.

If you prefer to stay local:

  • the Diocese of Niagara Pandemic Response Fund, which supports local food security programs like what we are partnering with at St. James’, Fergus.
  • St. John’s Elora General Operating Fund or the Choir Fund.

There are several ways of transmitting your gift:

  • Make a secure Interac e-transfer from your bank account directly to St. John’s bank account addressing it to: noting your designation in the memo box to PWRDF COVID, Diocesan Pandemic Fund, St John’s General Fund, or the Choir Fund.
  • Drop off your cheque through the mail slot in the Geddes Street entrance (old door) of the Parish Centre, clearly identifying where you wish the donation to be directed.
  • Donate to PWRDF directly: phone 1-866-308-7973, click on or mail to PWRDF, 80 Hayden Street, Toronto, Ontario M4Y 3G2

“May we who are merely inconvenienced
Remember those whose lives are at stake.

May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market
Remember those who have no margin at all.

During this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other,
Let us yet find ways to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbour.”
